The Brontë Parsonage Museum has succeeded in its quest to buy a miniature book written by Charlotte Brontë in 1830, when she was just fourteen.

Thanks to a crowdfunding campaign and vocal support from celebrities like Judi Dench, Audrey Niffenegger, and Tracy Chevalier, the museum was able to outbid private buyers at yesterday’s auction.

The museum paid $662,770 plus auction costs for the three handwritten stories, one of which includes a scene considered to be a precursor to one in Jane Eyre.

Brontë created six such books in her youth, but only five have survived.
