The headline of a recent piece from The Cut intrigued us: “Sadly, I like reading books on my phone now.”

We were surprised for two reasons: one, that someone would feel like she has to apologize for or explain her preferred method, and two … well … that she enjoyed something we avoid doing.

But Katie Heaney has a complete explanation for the latter question.

Gone are the days when she could read for hours straight with her eyes wide open — nowadays, she’s lucky to stay awake for twenty minutes.

That is, unless she reads on her phone. Not an e-reader. A phone.

It makes sense, given the number of articles we see about how technology is disrupting our sleep patterns because of blue light.

As for our first question? Well, it seems more that she used to judge herself for it, rather than that others judged her.

But take a read and tell us if we’re right, or share if you happen to have heard snark from others about phone-readers.

I read on my phone because : 1. I don't want to carry around multiple devices 2. I can add comments and edits that can be emailed to the author (kindle app for android) 3. I can use a blue light filter so it doesn't disrupt sleep patterns 4. I CAN MAKE THE TEXT AS BIG AS I NEED TO. (I'm old)
