The original version of Peter Pan has been published, albeit in a limited number of extremely expensive editions, for the first time.

The Guardian reports that J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan and Wendy — the original draft of which is in the New York Public Library — has been reproduced in the author’s handwriting.

Since only a thousand copies of the book, costing £140 (about $183) each, are available, the Guardian has shared some characteristics of note in an article about it.

For instance, you’ll find a slightly less lovable Peter, who “speaks ‘defiantly’ to Wendy and tries to be ‘more contemptuous than ever.’”

Read more about the changes from the draft to the final print version and what scholars believe they mean in the Guardian.
