’Tis the season when many of us resolve to read more or, perhaps, to read more of the classics.

Few of us will likely take our determination to conquer a classic as far as Nathalie Vanderlinden has, however.

The San Francisco chef — who long ago considered becoming an actress and attended film school — was inspired to read Swann’s Way by Marcel Proust out loud, in its entirety.

And she’s been doing it in public-transit stations, in her and Proust’s native language: French.
