Another debut novel that’s hitting several headlines is Such a Fun Age, by Kiley Reid.

Reese Witherspoon has chosen it for her book club, and reviewer Ilana Masad says it “works on so many levels it makes me giddy.”

(This enthusiasm is likely why, according to the Guardian, Reid is already working on a screenplay for the book.)

Such a Fun Age tells the tale of Emira, a black woman who works part time as a nanny for Alix, a wealthy white woman.

Their relationship is complex, dealing as it does with questions of race and economic privilege.

You can read an excerpt from the novel in Teen Vogue (or the New York Times, if you’re a subscriber), and also check out interviews that Reid has done — one with NPR, another with the Guardian.
