Jim Lehrer's death is a loss for literature as well as journalism

The journalism world lost a great figure yesterday, with the passing of Jim Lehrer.

Lehrer was, of course, best known as the longtime PBS NewsHour anchor and co-founder.

He was also a prolific writer of both fiction and nonfiction, though, with twenty novels, three memoirs, and even plays to his name.

As his PBS obituary notes, one of Lehrer’s novels, Viva Max!, was even adapted into a film starring Peter Ustinov and Jonathan Winters.
