The creators of an upcoming comic strip in which Nancy Drew dies are urging fans of the sleuth to give it a chance.
Nancy Drew & the Hardy Boys: The Death of Nancy Drew, a monthly series, was announced as part of Drew’s 90th-anniversary celebration — a move that confused and outraged fans.
But one writer told Gizmodo that he hadn’t intended for the comic to be connected with the anniversary.
Anthony Del Col also reassured fans, via Twitter, that “All that I can say is that the first issue will reveal that not everything is as it seems.”
His partner in the project, illustrator Joe Eisma, responded to complaints that the comic was “fridging” Nancy Drew (fridging is a term for when a female character is killed just so the male character can grow or progress).
"I personally am not a fan of fridging as a plot device, and I wouldn't have agreed to draw a book that had that as a plot element," he told Gizmodo. "I just hope folks will give us a chance to tell our story."
