It strikes us as funny that there’s such strong opinion over a phrase used to indicate a lack of interest.

Should someone burned out on political and publishing drama declare that they “could care less” about it all, or that they “couldn’t care less”?

Grammar Girl suggests that you opt for the latter if you don’t care to engage in linguistic battles.

But, she warns, that language sticklers who are bemoaning how often one now sees or hears “could care less” aren’t making it up.

It is becoming more common, at least for English speakers in the US, and at least two dictionaries seem to be throwing in the towel on objecting to it.
