The lawsuit over Audible Captions features has been settled, with Amazon agreeing to give authors and publishers the option to disable the feature.
When The Digital Reader reported on the settlement Friday, the news came from an Association of American Publishers statement, which indicated that AAP members had the option to disable Captions.
But Nate Hoffelder later learned from Audible that it will allow all authors and publishers, not just the AAP membership, to do this.
Captions displays up to twenty words of an audiobook's text on a device screen, only while the audiobook is being played.
It was put on hold after Simon & Schuster, the AAP, the Authors Guild, and other industry heavyweights filed a lawsuit over it, calling it a case of copyright infringement.
