Linda Wolfe, journalist and author of several books about true crime, has died at the age of eighty-seven.

Wolfe had been in the habit of clipping crime articles, with the idea that she’d use them for her fiction, when she came across news that twin gynecologists had been found dead in their apartment.

As the New York Times reports, Wolfe had been a client, briefly, of one of them, and that connection inspired her to begin writing about true crime.

In the case of the gynecologists, she wrote both a longform article and a novelized version; from there, she went on to write about various sensational happenings throughout history, with one of her most famous being Wasted: The Preppie Murder.

You can read more about Wolfe in her obituary.
