Woody Allen’s French publisher still hopes to release the comedian/filmmaker’s memoir, reports the Guardian.

Manuel Carcassonne, chief executive of Éditions Stock, told a magazine that he wants to publish Apropos of Nothing on April 29 as planned.

In the US, Hachette Book Group announced Friday that, after protests from employees and two of Allen’s children, it would return rights to the author.

Carcassonne said that decision was “sad for freedom of expression, but perfectly understandable in the American context” and that he believes Allen is innocent of the sexual abuse that his daughter Dylan Farrow accuses him of.

The Guardian also reported that author Stephen King and the free-speech advocacy organization PEN America have expressed concerns over the cancellation of Allen’s book in the US.
