Among the aspects of filmmaking that apply well to writing a book is the use of characters.

Specifically, says C.S. Lakin, the judicious and efficient use of characters.

Think about a movie you’ve seen a few times and ask yourself whether there were characters who served little to no purpose.

If it was a well-crafted film, the answer will likely be no.

Lakin uses the movie While You Were Sleeping to illustrate how each character has a distinct purpose in the plot on her Live Write Thrive blog.
