Indie publisher releases Woody Allen's "Apropos of Nothing"

Here’s a blast from the past: Woody Allen’s memoir, Apropos of Nothing, has not only found a publisher, but has also been released.

Skyhorse Publishing picked up Allen’s book after Hachette, facing intense blowback from employees and public figures alike, reverted the rights back to the author.

The Bookseller, citing the Associated Press, says this new edition has a postscript in which Allen says Hachette wanted to publish the work despite his status as “a toxic pariah and menace to society.” 

He goes on to accuse Hachette, which saw dozens of employees walk out in protest, of dropping it “like it was a hunk of Xenon 135.”

Allen, an award-winning filmmaker and comedian, has seen his career stall in recent years after his daughter Dylan Farrow accused him of sexually abusing her during her childhood; he denies the claims and has never been charged.

Dylan Farrow and her brother Ronan — author of Catch and Kill, which details the coordinated efforts of those in power to protect sexual predators from the consequences of their actions — had criticized Hachette for initially agreeing to publish Allen's book.
