Award-winning playwright Terrence McNally has passed away of complications related to the coronavirus.

McNally — a four-time Tony Award winner, an Emmy winner, and recipient of the 2019 Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre — was eighty-one.

Among his many successes were the adaptations of E.L. Doctorow’s novel Ragtime and Manuel Puig’s Kiss of the Spider Woman.
