All of us are finding just how much we rely on access to technology nowadays.

PEN America and several other organizations want those of us thanking goodness for ebooks and internet access to spare a thought for those less fortunate: prisoners.

A news release that came out Friday calls upon the companies that provide tablets and ereaders to prisoners to waive fees associated with their use and with content during the coronavirus pandemic.

PEN points out that every state prison has ended in-person visits and that many have also “cancelled educational and recreational programming, access to prison libraries, and prison work programs.”

The full press release is available on PEN’s website.
