Much has been written about seeking clarity during the coronavirus pandemic by reading fiction and nonfiction about other plagues.

The Guardian, today, is reminding us that literature gives us a preview of what to expect after restrictions lift.

Many, but not all, stories end with jubilation and celebration — there are, however, a few somber lessons, such as the warning, in A Journal of the Plague Year by Daniel Defoe, not to let our guard down too quickly.
