The man responsible for our fondest mall memories has passed away.

The New York Times reports that Harry Hoffman, who opened hundreds of Waldenbooks stores during his time as president, died May 20 at age 92.

When Hoffman took over, the chain had almost five hundred stores; he went on to open eight hundred more, according to his obituary.
