Today’s installment of authors are regular people, too: Tayari Jones spent four hours in an Atlanta voting line last week.
The author of An American Marriage — a bestseller, an award-winner, and an Oprah’s Book Club pick — participated in the LA Times’s ongoing “COVID diaries” and shared the story there.
In it, Jones describes her preparations for voting, her moments of bonding and solidarity with fellow voters, a moment of panic at the actual booth, and her concern about exposing her elderly parents to the coronavirus.
Georgia's primary, which took place last Tuesday, was marked by many long lines besides the one Jones was in; confusion over polling sites; a shortage of volunteers; and various equipment issues.
