When you sit down to write your author bio, your first inclination might be to open with awards and bestseller statuses.

Don’t have those yet? Fear not — C.S. Lakin has great news for you.

No matter what your career looks like, she urges you to “focus on the elements of humor, creativity, and cleverness that help showcase your author voice.”

And additionally, she points out, an Alliance of Independent Authors survey found that several other factors weigh far more heavily on readers’ minds than prizes and bestseller statuses.

In fact, they were the least likely out of fifteen data points to influence a reader to buy a book!

Lakin provides a number of examples of strong author bios and an analysis of what makes them work in a guest post at The Self Publisher.
