Happy release day to Sophie Mackintosh and her new novel, Blue Ticket!

Mackintosh previously burst onto the literary scene with her debut, The Water Cure, which landed on the Man Booker longlist and several other best-of-2018 roundups.

Her new effort takes place in a society where young women receive their fates via lottery: a blue ticket means you have a career and freedom; a white one, that you marry and have children.

Calla, our heroine, receives a blue ticket (as one might guess from the title) — but she finds herself wondering whether there hadn’t been some mistake.

Intrigued? We are! And thankfully, the New York Times has an excerpt of Blue Ticket for us to whet our appetites for the whole novel.
