Literary Hub brings us news of two upcoming TV adaptations of books.

We'll start with HBO’s production of Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, about which more details are publicly available.

Kamilah Forbes, who directed a stage version of the book in 2018, will reprise her role, with this adaptation airing in the fall.

Lit Hub reports that in addition to readings from the text of Between the World and Me, the show will include animations, archival footage, and footage from the (as-of-yet-unnamed) cast’s homes.

The book, which won the National Book Award in 2015, tackles the complexity of being a Black man in a letter to the author’s teenage son.

Meanwhile, Apple TV+ has given the green light to an adaptation of The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes.

Elisabeth Moss, no stranger to literary productions (The Handmaid’s Tale and Shirley), will star in the series and executive produce, along with Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company.

The Shining Girls pits a time-traveling serial killer against a journalist (played by Moss) determined not to let him finish the job.
