Author Kate Reed Petty is a longtime lover of the traditional in-person book event.

And she has eagerly participated in the online versions made necessary by the COVID pandemic and its social distancing requirements.

But Petty has found herself wondering why these events are just virtual replicas of the in-person events, rather than taking a new form.

She has a vested interest in this debate, too: her debut novel, True Story, came out August 4.

Petty drafted a list of nine possible new features for online author events and posted it on Electric Literature.
