We doubt any bookworms are yearning to stare at a screen (or a different screen, if they’re ebook fans), but just in case, we present two options.
The more socially distant one — and perhaps less vexing to literary purists — is Worlds of Ursula K. Le Guin, which will remain streaming through August 30.
The documentary includes interviews with the author herself as well as commentary from those she influenced, including Neil Gaiman and Margaret Atwood.
The option for the more adventurous, in multiple senses, is The Personal History of David Copperfield, which hits theaters tomorrow.
The Los Angeles Times film critic opens his review with the admonishment that during COVID, one should not go to a theater to see the film.
But, says Justin Chang, this innovative adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens novel is well worth watching.
Starring Dev Patel of Slumdog Millionaire fame, the film adds comedic visual touches, from dropping the adult David into the scene of his birth to letting a giant hand literally pluck him out of a moment.
