Celebrity book clubs have released their picks for September.

Reese Witherspoon selected The Last Story of Mina Lee by Nancy Jooyoun Kim for her Hello Sunshine book club.

The book alternates between heroine Margot Lee’s investigation of her mother’s mysterious death and flashbacks to her immigrant mother’s first year in Los Angeles.

Jenna Bush Hager picked Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi.

The novel follows Gifty, a Ghanian immigrant who’s a PhD candidate in neuroscience in the United States, and her journey to understand her family’s suffering from a scientific and spiritual perspective.

"The fact that this book tackles the themes of mental health and race at this moment in our culture, I think will lead our book club to have some really important conversations," Hager said in announcing her Read With Jenna pick.

And finally, Good Morning America chose Fifty Words for Rain by Asha Lemmie.

The book stars a young biracial girl in post-World War II Japan and follows her as she realizes she can and should break free from the solitary life her grandparents have imposed on her.

You can read an excerpt from Fifty Words for Rain in GMA’s announcement.
