The uproar over J.K. Rowling’s latest villain likely hasn’t hurt her book sales.

The Guardian reports that Troubled Blood has registered the biggest single-week sales for any of Rowling’s novels as Robert Galbraith.

In fact, it has sold almost twice as many in its first week as the Galbraith debut did.

Rowling, already in some trouble for her June comments that many saw as transphobic, reignited those criticisms by having a suspect in Troubled Blood dress in women’s clothing.

An advance review in the Telegraph described the character as a “transvestite,” prompting more accusations of transphobia.

Rowling has said that the character is loosely based on two real-life murderers who were known to have interest in women’s clothing.
