A frustrated reader wrote to Grammar Girl to complain about seeing a particular exclamation of emotion spelled “woah” and not “whoa.”

Mignon Fogarty explains why “whoa” is the preferred spelling (as well as how it came into being in the first place), but adds a few interesting observations about the “woah” spelling.
