World building isn’t just something for fantasy and sci-fi authors to study.

It’s equally important for writers of historical fiction — and, according to Rebecca D’Harlingue, it’s more challenging for them, too, because they must respect the limits of reality.

D’Harlingue shares the ten world-building techniques she used in her own historical fiction novel to help readers both believe in the past world that she has described and enter it eagerly.
