The trailer for a new Terry Pratchett-inspired show made a splash over the weekend — but not exactly a good one.

The BBC's The Watch, which premieres in January, “shares no DNA” with Pratchett’s short stories, said his daughter, Rhianna, on Twitter.

Other authors chimed in, reports the Guardian

Award-winning sci-fi author Aliette de Bodard said she felt like “someone took my teenage years and just repeatedly trampled them while setting them on fire.”

Neil Gaiman, who co-wrote Good Omens with Pratchett, was more circumspect, observing that when fans love the source material, they’re bound to react poorly to extreme changes.

Executive producer Richard Stokes recently described the show as a “pick-and-mix of the best bits” from the original stories, and complaints about its punk aesthetic have followed it for months.

Negative ratings of the trailer on YouTube far outweigh the positive ones; you can watch it below, but for fan commentary, you'll want to head to YouTube.
