Those seeking an escape from reality in literature can rest assured: Don DeLillo’s next novel is safe.
The Silence, which comes out October 20, follows five people who are gathered for an ordinary dinner when a “catastrophic event” strikes them.
Evidently, in one scene, a character rattles off a series of previous disasters; among them will not be COVID-19.
Literary Hub reports that it was added sometime after DeLillo completed his final version — but that he made sure it was removed.
Unsurprisingly, though, there’s no forgetting about coronavirus in a new biography of Dr. Anthony Fauci.
