Those seeking an escape from reality in literature can rest assured: Don DeLillo’s next novel is safe.
The Silence, which comes out October 20, follows five people who are gathered for an ordinary dinner when a “catastrophic event” strikes them.
Evidently, in one scene, a character rattles off a series of previous disasters; among them will not be COVID-19.
Literary Hub reports that it was added sometime after DeLillo completed his final version — but that he made sure it was removed.
Unsurprisingly, though, there’s no forgetting about coronavirus in a new biography of Dr. Anthony Fauci.
NPR spoke with Michael Specter, who has spent three decades covering Fauci’s career, about the audiobook he’s just released that details those years.
See what the author says about Fauci the man and Fauci the book by listening to the NPR segment or reading the transcript.
