If you’ve followed our various award-nomination and book-club-pick posts, you’ve certainly begun to recognize certain titles.

Shuggie Bain has emerged as one of those — it seems like you can’t turn around without finding it on a must-read list.

Adding to the excitement around it is the fact that it’s author Douglas Stuart’s debut novel.

Stuart, a fashion designer working twelve-hour days, has said that he began writing the novel as a way to process his childhood trauma (which serves as the basis for the novel).
