An Edith Wharton short story has just been published for the first time — and you can read it exactly as she wrote it.

Scholars believe “A Granted Prayer” was written between 1898 and 1911; the story was rediscovered in the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library at Yale University.

Wharton is best known for her novels The House of MirthEthan Frome, and The Age of Innocence (which won a Pulitzer Prize).

Head to The Atlantic to read “A Granted Prayer.”
