Merriam-Webster’s selection of a word of the year for 2020 is the least shocking thing that has happened all year.
“Pandemic” grabbed the top honor, and the statistics on how many more people searched for it this year than in the past are far more illuminating than the explanation for why it was chosen.
It’s worth visiting the blog post, too, to browse eleven other words that sent us to the dictionary — some of which don’t even relate to our ongoing medical crisis.
