There’s a fine art to choosing where to end a chapter in your book.
Wrap the scene up too tightly and readers will close the book too willingly, but quit too abruptly and they’ll realize what you’re up to.
To strike the right balance, Kathryn Craft recommends putting the break right before a dramatic turning point or right after — in each case, in a place where something powerful has happened, to satisfy your reader, but where more development promises to take place, to tempt them into “just one more chapter.”
