A new production in the works isn’t the Hamlet you studied in literature class.

Deadline reports that Noomi Rapace, best known for playing Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, will lead a gender-swapped adaptation of the William Shakespeare play — meaning, yes, that she will play Hamlet.

Director Ali Abbasi, who counts Swedish and Danish among his heritages, described his adaptation as a reclaiming of the play.

“Shakespeare stole the Hamlet story from us,” he said, according to Deadline. “Now it’s our turn to claim it back and make a version so insane and so bloody that make him turn in his grave.”

Deadline has more about the minds behind the gender-swapped Hamlet movie, for those interested.
