Author, editor, and writing coach Allison K. Williams must be spying on us.

Within the first lines of her column for Jane Friedman came these sentences: "Newsflash: Your calendar will never magically pop up 'Today You Can Focus Entirely on That One Project.' To finish that book on the back burner, you must actively bring it forward."

And while her explanations of the tips are specific to unfinished book projects, we suspect that the guiding principles could apply to just about anything else, writing-related or otherwise (looking at you, attic reorganization project).

Head to Jane Friedman’s blog to see Williams’s advice on restarting an abandoned book (and the comments endorsing her approach, if you need social proof).
