Not everyone is a fan of celebrities who pursue fields other than the ones that originally made them famous.

But for those who are open to seeing how well creatives perform in these other fields, February 2 is a good day for you: actors David Duchovny and Ethan Hawke each have a novel out.

Duchovny spoke about Truly Like Lightning, which pits an ambitious developer against a reclusive, polygamist family, with the Los Angeles Times.

Hawke, meanwhile, chatted about A Bright Ray of Darkness — about a man making his Broadway debut while his marriage falls apart — with NPR.

And both interviews, in case you’re a skeptic but have read this far, touch on the question (critical or not) of why an actor feels like he can or should write novels, too.
