Author Steven Pressfield, like many of the guests on Joanna Penn’s podcast, had plenty to say about the non-writing part of being a writer.

That is, he and Penn discussed overcoming such mental obstacles as a blank page, a resistance to marketing, and self doubt.

But they also touched on a particular craft issue that we hadn’t seen appear before.

Pressfield writes in a variety of genres (you may recognize The Legend of Bagger Vance) but his most recent novel takes place in the first century A.D.

A Man at Arms is not his first time writing about such a distant time, one in which — as Penn put it — historical truth intersects heavily with religion and faith.

See how Pressfield struck that balance and handled other craft issues, along with his mindset advice, in the transcript of his interview at The Creative Penn
