A limited-series adaptation of Toni Morrison’s Song of Solomon is in the works.

Deadline reports that American Gods producer Fremantle acquired the rights and will co-produce, with Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom director George C. Wolfe serving as writer and director.

The project will soon be pitched to platforms and broadcasters, according to Deadline.

Literary Hub notes that Song of Solomon would become just the second of Morrison’s work to be adapted (with the first being Oprah Winfrey's 1998 adaptation of Beloved).

Song of Solomon, which came out in 1977, won the National Book Critics Circle Award the following year and was cited in Morrison’s Nobel Prize victory in 1993.

The novel is the coming-of-age story of Milkman Dead, a Black man who travels from the Rust Belt city where he was born to his family’s ancestral home.
