If you grew up — or raised kids — on Cricket magazine, we’re sorry to say that its creator has passed away.

Marianne Carus died on March 3 at age ninety-two, reports the New York Times.

Carus was both discouraged by the reading material her children brought home and inspired to offer something better, according to her obituary.

Apparently other parents felt the same way as Carus, because when she and her husband launched Cricket in 1973, it became a smash hit.
