A joke we’ll soon get to retire is the line, uttered upon news of a celebrity memoir or creative project outside of their industry, that we knew what they were doing during the pandemic.

But in the case of musician Dave Grohl, it’s not actually a joke — it’s a statement of fact.

According to the Guardian, Grohl — founder of the Foo Fighters and drummer for Nirvana — began sharing stories on Instagram when coronavirus shut the world down.

The response from fans was overwhelmingly positive and surprisingly rewarding, so he decided to flesh them out into a memoir, The Storyteller.

The Storyteller comes out October 5.
