The Wishing Shelf Book Awards has revealed its 2020 winners, chosen by actual readers.

Reading groups in London and Stockholm chose the adult winners, and students in eight United Kingdom schools picked the children’s-book winners.

The complete list of winners is on the Wishing Shelf Book Awards’ website; here are the gold winners for each of the six categories.

Preschool picture books: I Wish You Happiness, by Michael Wong; and The Snark, written by Justin Davis and illustrated by Stephanie Jayne.

Books for 6- to 8-year-olds: Ballistic Kids, written by Thom Craigen and illustrated by Matt Riste.

Books for 9- to 12-year-olds: Gobbledy, by Lis Anna-Langston.

Books for teenagers: Everything All At Once, by Ivy Cayden; and The Truth That Lies Between, by W D McComb.

Books for adults (fiction): The Opium Lord's Daughter, by Robert Wang.

Books for adults (nonfiction): How Much Big Is the Sky: A Memoir of a Mother's Love and Unfathomable Loss, by Sherry Chapman; and Playing Dead: A Memoir of Terror and Survival, by Monique Faison Ross.
