We suspect that an average day for Richard Garriott is more interesting than the most thrilling year of others’ lives.

He’s a video game creator who has also been to each of Earth’s poles, outer space, and the deepest part of the ocean.

And before that visit to the Mariana Trench, he invited young poets to send him their cinquains, so that he could read the best of them from under the sea.

Literary Hub spoke with him upon his return about literature on land, in the air, and under water, and he also shared some highlights from the cinquain contest in the interview
