Meet the flight attendant who signed a seven-figure book deal

Those who don’t fear flying — or who never fly — may, however, appreciate the remarkable story of Torri Newman’s journey from daydreaming flight attendant to author with a seven-figure, two-book deal.

Newman told the Guardian that she’d written on and off for a couple of years, but it wasn’t until she decided to take a job as a flight attendant that she felt able to fully commit to writing.

And it was on a flight, as she guarded the cockpit, that the idea for her debut novel, Falling, occurred to her.

Falling imagines a pilot who’s told by terrorists that he can either crash the plane he’s flying and kill everyone on it or allow the terrorists to kill his family.

It comes out July 6 in the US, under the name T.J. Newman.
