With about 90 million users worldwide, Goodreads has clearly found and fulfilled a need among many readers.

Kat Smith writes, in the Guardian, that she is no longer among those.

The gamification features have started to suck the joy out of reading for her, she says — instead of devouring a book because it’s well-written and compelling, she’s devouring it to add it to her completed list.

Smith finds this stressful and joyless, while acknowledging that not everyone may feel that way.

So, she says, if you find a sense of community and camaraderie in Goodreads, fantastic — she, however, is simply not among those any longer.

For all of Smith’s reasons for deleting Goodreads, check out the Guardian.
