As you’ve certainly learned from living in a world with other people, we don’t all approach conflict the same way.

Yet, says author Kelsey Allagood, a considerable amount of popular media and storytelling depicts these tension points the same way — as both sides seeking total and complete victory.

There are plenty of stories in which that’s entirely appropriate, but there’s also plenty of good reasons to consider having your characters take multiple different approaches.

Allagood describes a range of conflict styles in her post at Writer Unboxed that also explains why using varying conflict styles in fiction benefits your piece (and fiction as a whole).
