Yesterday marked a year since George Floyd — a Black man — was murdered by a white police officer.

His death, captured on cellphone camera, sparked quite the reaction across the United States.

One of those many effects was a surge in sales of books addressing racial issues — and many readers sought Black-owned bookstores to make these purchases.

A year after Floyd’s death, NPR spoke with Black bookstore owners about those sales and how long they lasted.
