Authors of any genre want to keep their readers deeply immersed in the story, not stopping to scratch their heads over a detail and losing the flow.

For Nekesa Afia, the settings of historical fiction pieces (on screen and on the page) often make the latter misstep. 

As both a fan and writer of historical fiction, she finds this especially frustrating — but she has advice on how to avoid it.
