Donald Trump says he has started writing a book that will be “the biggest of them all” and that major publishing companies are eager to take it on.
But, says POLITICO, sources at each of the big five publishing houses all said they hadn’t heard of such a deal — and a few added that they wouldn’t consider it, anyway.
The main reason, at least for one source: fears that the book wouldn’t be truthful.
And, as was seen with protests over deals with former Vice President Mike Pence and Trump supporter Senator Josh Hawley, a publisher would likely face intense blowback from authors and readers who disapprove of Trump.
That said, POLITICO reached out to Regnery — the conservative imprint that took on Hawley after Simon & Schuster dropped him — about a possible Trump book deal; a spokesperson said that the imprint is happy to speak with President Trump when he is ready to publish his book.”
There’s also the option of self-publishing, which Trump’s son Donald Jr. took with his second book, Liberal Privilege: Joe Biden and the Democrats’ Defense of the Indefensible.
