An auction that opens this week will contain an impressively intimate collection of Sylvia Plath items.

The Guardian reports that the July 9 auction includes Plath’s wedding ring, the Plath family Bible, and letters she exchanged with her husband, Ted Hughes, and his family.

One letter of note has Plath encouraging Hughes to enter a particular poetry contest, his victory in which launched his career.

You can preview some of the Plath items up for sale — such as family photos and drawings — in the Guardian.

Plath’s talent in both poetry (“Daddy” and “Lady Lazarus”) and prose (The Bell Jar) is sometimes overshadowed by focus on her relationship with Hughes and subsequent suicide.
