Deadline has casting announcements for two upcoming book adaptations.
The FX series based on Octavia E. Butler’s novel Kindred will feature newcomer Mallori Johnson as the time-traveling author Dana.
Production of Kindred is expected to begin in September, according to Deadline, which also has a number of details about the producers, writers, directors, and financiers, if you’re interested.
Viet Thanh Nguyen’s The Sympathizer is also coming to the screen, albeit with a much more recognizable star.
Deadline’s sources say Robert Downey Jr. will fill multiple supporting roles as the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel’s main antagonists.
Casting is still ongoing for the title character and other Vietnamese characters for the series, which HBO has ordered.
